Feb 2012 Meeting Minutes

The Indiana Dairy Goat Association met on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Hancock County Extension office. President Jerry Lubbehusen called the meeting to order at 2:25 p.m.  Officers present were President Jerry Lubbehusen, Vice President Tim Vanzant, Treasurer Marianne Ingle, and Secretary Bonnie Robbins. Directors present were Sue Schroeder, David Ingle, Patty Baker, Diana Hubbard, Chris Hudson and State Fair Rep Teena Spear.

January minutes were presented and approved. Treasurer report was presented and approved.
Hoosier Classic report was given. Megan reported that the building is secured. Discussion was held on wether show. ID must be tag or tattoo. Breeders who are not showing wethers will help with verification, etc. Scales will be available. Light weight, medium weight & heavy weight. Show will be Saturday after Jr doe. Dustin Noble, Sarah Chambers will be judges.  IDGA meeting will be after the meal & before auction.  Youth judging competition on Sunday.  A lamancha doe has been secured -other kids are needed.  We will be accepting proxie bids this year-bidders need to contact show committee with their maximum bid.  Photos will again be taken of breed champions & reserves for the web site.

State Fair report. Teena stated they would be meeting w/ Jackie Bell before next meeting. She needs barn boys & office help (answer phones, data entry, etc).

Web page – Chris advised Megan is going to convert documents to HTML. Judges list needs to be consolidated. Lawrence Co show is May 6. Greenfield is May 19. HC June 9-10. Elnora-June 23. Wayne Co June 30-July 1/Boer is June 24.  Sept 22-Rut Fest/Washington IN.   Megan is working on getting PIN numbers assigned & those should be ready by mid-March. Show info w/$15 needs to get to Marianne before April meeting. PIN will be needed to access minutes & show packet. Chris & Marianne will work on proposal for pricing for the marketplace ads. Chris & Marianne are going to be the contact people for placing info w/ Megan.  Chris & Marianne are also gathering information for use of Paypal on our website.  Membership list will be uploaded to website.  If a member wants to place a business card ad or have a link from the membership list to their website, they will need to pay a yearly cost of $12 to have this done.

Fundraiser-Evie announced the company with pans is still working on graphics. Info on shirts is on the website for ordering thru Sue

Youth Rep-Chris announced there is 1 interested person-presentations are at the March meeting. Any interested youth needs to contract Chris. 

Teena gave information on the BOAH meeting for small dairy processors March 6, 1p.m. at ISF.  Info was shared about the bill passing thru legislature for raw milk sales.

Chris introduced Mike Hopengarten who is running the creamery in Spiceland. June 6 they are hosting a field day w/ Purdue Extension, USDA, BOAH, etc. IDGA will host the April 1 meeting at the creamery.

Judges seminar at beginning at 12 noon at next meeting (March 4) by Juli Huffman.

Business  meeting adjourned at 3:30 p.m.Robin Saum and John White gave presentation on performance programs.   We thank Robin & John for their time in coming to speak to us.
